Bucks Food Calendar: September 6, 2013

Canal-New_HopeIt looks like it is going to be an absolutely stunning weekend weather-wise, which is great since there are so many fun outdoor events taking place throughout Bucks and nearby.

Wine, food & art. This weekend you will have some hard choices. The 9th Savor New Hope weekend (Sept 6-8) celebrates the culinary arts as well as the mission of New Hope Arts Center. This year the event honors Jim Hamilton, co-founder of the first Savor event in 2004 and long-time supporter of New Hope Arts. The gala Savor dinner on September 8 from 6 to 9 pm features seventeen of the area’s finest chefs, caterers and purveyors of fine dining. Tickets are $45 for the event before September 7 and $50 at the door. See their website for more information.

UV-wine-bottle-Port-VatAt Unionville Vineyards, also on Sunday, enjoy From Pork to Port, a kickoff celebration of Hunterdon County’s 300th birthday. The party will include a pig roast, vineyard walks, live music, and barrel tastings of future releases. Tickets are $40 available online.

Beer, beer, beer. McCoole’s Annual Fall Beer Festival is this Saturday in Quakertown. Unlimited samples of over 70 unique beers, music, food, craft vendors, a Home Brew beer competition, beer trivia and, of course, beer pong. There are two sessions: 12 – 4 pm and 5 – 9 pm. Advance tickets are $35, $40 at the door. Buy tickets online here.

In Sellersville, the Washington House will be hosting a beer tasting of Dogfish Head Brewery on this Friday evening. Phillips Fine Wines has a beer tasting every Friday afternoon. And if you want to be there from the very beginning, stop by Triumph Brewing Company in New Hope on the first Friday of every month for a barrel tapping, or go to Isaac Newton’s in Newtown on every Wednesday evening for a barrel tapping.

ofm-picnic-competitionPretty as a Picnic. The Ottsville Farmers’ Market is hosting a picnic competition next Friday, September 13. Get your baskets ready! Here are the rules: BYO blanket, tables, chairs (max 10×10 space per group); set up begins after 4 pm, spaces are first come first serve; name your picnic with a sign or a flag; and include at least five items from the Ottsville Farmers Market. All are welcome to participate (individuals, organizations, businesses). Judging begins at 6:30 pm. Watch the market’s Facebook page and website for category updates and details.

Snipes_applesTo market, to market. New arrivals! Freshly pressed apple cider (Wrightstown Market), Brussel sprout greens, Chinese cabbage, kale, broccoli rabe, spinach sweet potato greens, arugula, fennel, Kirby cucumbers and mustard greens.

Also look for apples, basil, beets, blackberries (may be the last), cantaloupe, celery, cherry tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, dandelion greens, Italian and Asian eggplant, field peas, garlic, heirloom tomatoes, lettuce and lettuce mixes, melon, nectarines, okra, onions, parsley, peaches, pears, peppers (sweet & hot), potatoes, radishes, rosemary, scallions, shallots, string beans, summer squash, thyme, tomatillos, winter squash and zucchini.
