Before the holidays hit, find some time to relax and enjoy this week. There’s a few events that might even make your planning that much easier.
Need a new hotspot for happy hours with friends? Or, maybe just a spot to unwind this week? Here’s a few places where you can get a nifty drink on a budget:
- MOMs: Maxwell’s on Main in Doylestown has a happy hour from 5-7 pm, with $2 off beers, $7 martinis, and $4 cocktails. They have a long list of craft beers and pride themselves on their bartenders’ ability to make you pretty much whatever cocktail you want.
- Poco’s Mexican American Restaurant: Happy hour at this favorite Doylestown spot is from 4-6 pm from Monday through Friday. Half off apps and drinks, so you can get margaritas galore, along with some great Mexican appetizers (I recommend the shrimp rumaki or fried pickles).
- Continental Tavern: The tavern in Yardley has a happy hour from 4-6 pm. Discounted select appetizers, $2.50 domestic drafts, well drinks for $4 and house wine for $5. Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc, Stella Artois and Guinness are all $5. Also, from 6-10 pm, the tavern has half price burgers. Come for happy hour, stay for the meat!
- DeAnna’s: Come for a happy hour but you’ll be drinking oysters instead of beer. From 4-6 pm enjoy $1 clams, oysters and shrimp on Thursdays and Fridays.
Still looking for a special side to go with your Thanksgiving meal? This Tuesday, November 17, Weis Market in Doylestown will show you how to make their apple cider & maple glazed sweet potatoes. You’ll also receive recipe ideas, cooking tips and coupons. Demonstration and samples are free and happening 12-3 pm.
Up your creativity! Learn how to make the perfect flower arrangement while drinking wine on Wednesday, November 18 at Crossing Vineyards and Winery in Newtown, starting at 6:30 pm. Taste some of Crossing Vineyards’ award-winning wines and create a seasonal flower arrangement to take home. The event includes wine tasting, floral materials and instructions. Cost is $65 per person and you can reserve your spot here.
Also on Wednesday, at McCaffreys Market Bistro in Yardley, learn how to shop for heart healthy meals while getting the best nutrition possible. St. Mary cardiologists and McCaffrey’s dietitian will show you what to look for while you are shopping and how to read food labels. You get to sample foods and learn which foods have the best nutritional value. Space is limited so RSVP by calling 215.750.7713 or email nutritionist@mccaffreys.com. If you’re more into organic foods, McCaffrey’s is also having an Organic Foods: Facts and Fiction on Thursday, November 19 from 10 am-12 pm.
Here’s what you’ll find at area farmers’ markets: New this week! Sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower. Apples, apple cider, beets, broccoli rabe, cabbage, carrots, collards, lettuce, garlic, kale, mushrooms, variety of onions, sweet peppers, chili peppers, red and white potatoes, radishes, rosemary, rutabaga, sage, salad mix, Swiss chard, winter squash and spaghetti squash, thyme, and more. [Availability will vary by market.]
Most markets will also have eggs from free-range chickens, grass-fed and pastured meats, preserves, specialty foods, baked goods like breads, cakes, cookies and pastries, cheese and yogurt, cider and juice, sauces locally roasted coffee, and interesting crafts from local artisans.
