7 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (August 5 – 7)

Mid 80s and high 70s, with not a cloud in the sky? This August weather is perfect. The only way to truly enjoy it is to get out this weekend and relax with a cold brew or a plate filled with food truck goodies. Order some BBQ, watch local fireworks, and soak up these sweet summer nights.

1. Beer Tasting: Great Lakes Brewing

Friday, August 5, 5 – 11 pm, The Washington House Restaurant, 136 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA

The Washington House is hosting a beer tasting of Great Lakes Brewing this Friday, August 5, starting at 5 pm. The restaurant and bar liked Great Lakes so much they are presenting them again this year even though they recently featured them within two years. Great Lakes beers include pale ales, IPA, lager, stouts, and other ales. Give the restaurant a call if you are curious about what beers they actually will have in-house.

2. Food Truck Fundraiser

Friday, August 5, 5 – 9 pm, New Hope-Solebury High School, 180 W. Bridge Street Parking Lot, New Hope, PA

Bonjour Creperie

This Friday, August 5, a food truck fundraiser is being held to raise money for the New Hope-Solebury Education Fund. The event begins at 5 pm and ends at 9 pm, featuring food trucks like Bonjour Creperie, BrazBQ, Cupcake Carnivale, Jules Thin Crust Pizza, and My Four Suns, all of which will contribute a portion of their profits to the fund. The event will run rain or shine at the New Hope-Solebury High School parking lot at 180 W. Bridge St. in New Hope. Admission is free but guests will pay for food and a $5 parking fee is donated to the high school booster clubs.

3. Foodie First Friday

Friday, August 5, Downtown Doylestown, PA

Hickory KitchenLooking for a new restaurant in downtown Doylestown? This Friday, August 5, is “Foodie First Friday,” a monthly event that celebrates culture, community and cuisine. Many of the restaurants have specials for the celebration so try a restaurant you’ve never been to, or stop by your usual place and enjoy your favorites. Here are a few restaurants and food shops participating. For a full list, click here:

  • Jules Thin Crust: Jules has some great thin crust pizza with fresh, local, organic and seasonal ingredients. They also have special gluten-free options. Gourmet topics include kalamata olives, arugula, organic tomatoes, and roasted eggplant. Jules will also be in attendance at the New Hope-Solebury food truck fundraiser (My favorite: Kim’s Pie).
  • Hickory KitchenThe best of Bucks BBQ, with vegetarian options, gluten-free options, and classic comfort food. This weekend, try their house smoked ribs with Hickory Kitchen BBQ sauce.
  • Nina’s WafflesWaffles and ice cream? Does it get much better? Order some scoops of ice cream or get one of the homemade waffles with ice cream and syrup on top.

4. Lumberville General Store Supper Club

Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6, 6 pm, Lumberville General Store, 3741 River Rd., Lumberville, PA

hosts a supper club on Fridays and Saturdays, and this weekend, if you feel it’s too hot to prepare your own food, you can head over and have the store cook for you. Grab some friends and enjoy the dinner party, with no membership required. It begins at 6 pm, and it’s 24.95 per person. Also, it’s BYOB. Last weekend, dinner club guests sampled things like BBQ pork belly and oven roasted monkfish. Give the store a call at 215.297.9262.

5. First Friday at Triumph Brewing Co.

Triumph Brewing Co.

Join Triumph Brewing Co. at the front of the stage at 6 pm on Friday, August 5, as their brewer taps a barrel of beer and their friends at Terhune Orchards hand out samples of their produce and goods. The Mount family’s 200-acre farm is located in Lawrence, NJ, just a few miles from downtown Princeton. The farm even has a vineyard and winery with 12 varieties of wine made from their own grapes.

6. New Hope-Lambertville Summer Fireworks/Dinner at the Logan Inn

Friday, August 5, 9:30 pm, 10 West Ferry Street, New Hope, PA (along the Delaware River)

Fireworks on the Delaware River between New Hope and Lambertville are scheduled for the first Friday of each month, weather permitting, and beginning at 9:30 pm. Enjoy dinner at the Logan Inn, watch the show, and spend the night in one of the inn’s rooms if you don’t want to leave. Call 215.862.2300 to book a room or make dinner reservations. Some highlights at the Logan Inn this summer include pan seared salmon, lobster mac and cheese, and other seafood dishes.

7. Peach Social

Sunday, August 7, 2 – 4 pm, Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation, 321 Cedar St., Bristol, PA

The Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation is hosting a peach social on Sunday, August 7, from 2 pm – 4 pm. There will be angel food cake topped with fresh peaches and ice cream, plus beverages and a baked goods table. Takeout is available so bring a container. Admission is free, and call the foundation at 215.781.9895 for more information.
