Bucks County knows how to celebrate the Fourth of July. This weekend is jam-packed with BBQs, picnics, parties, beers on tap, and parades. This week’s “things you gotta do” includes Monday since it’s the holiday, so be sure to check out what’s in store for the three-day weekend!

1. Pineville Tavern Celebrates Burger Brawl 2016
Friday, July 1, 11 am – 12 am, Pineville Tavern, 1089 Durham Road, Wrightstown, PA
The Pineville Tavern‘s burger beat out creations from nearly three dozen Philadelphia-area restaurants, and it was the judges’ favorite pick at Sunday’s sixth annual Burger Brawl competition held at Xfinity Live! in Philadelphia.
Diners can try out the “Million $ Bacon Burger” this Friday, July 1 for only $5 all day long. The burger is a patty of ground chuck, rib, and brisket, with a potato roll from Conshohocken Bakery. It’s topped with Cooper Sharp and American cheese, bacon-onion jam, and bacon made of cold-smoked belly that is then sliced with Aleppo pepper, cayenne, and brown sugar before it is hot-smoked for eight hours. Served with fries and coleslaw, it normally sells for $15, but it will be offered to all diners for $5 as a way to celebrate the big victory at Burger Brawl.
2. Foodie First Friday
Friday, July 1, Downtown Doylestown, PA
Looking for a new restaurant in downtown Doylestown? This Friday, July 1 is “Foodie First Friday,” a monthly event that celebrates culture, community and cuisine. Many of the restaurants have specials for the celebration so try a restaurant you’ve never been to, or stop by your usual place and enjoy your favorites. - Hickory Kitchen: The best of Bucks BBQ, with vegetarian options, gluten-free options, and obviously tons of great comfort food. BBQ is great for a Fourth of July weekend in Bucks County!
- The Zen Den: A funky coffee boutique with baked goods and plenty of varieties of coffee and tea.
- The Tubby Olive: Plenty of olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Perfect for the novice cook or gifts for friends, and there are experts on site who will help figure out the best product for your palate.
- The Station Tap House: Voted best beer bar, and it’s also conveniently by the train station in Doylestown if you don’t want to drive!
- Artistic Pizzeria: Open late, this place has traditional style pizza with an artistic twist.
3. Live Music and Wine Along the River
Friday, July 1, 5:30 – 9:30 pm, Sand Castle Winery, 755 River Road, Erwinna, PA
Kick off the weekend with a night of Americana style music along the river at Sand Castle Winery this Friday, July 1 from 5:30 – 9:30 pm. The night features music by Paul Donovan from 7 – 9:30 pm, and a special opening guest musician. The cover charge is $15 per person and it includes a glass of Sand Castle wine. 4. Brewery Weekend with Allagash
Friday and Saturday, July 1 – 2, Spinnerstown Hotel and Taproom, 2195 Spinnerstown Rd., Quakertown, PA
This weekend, Allagash beers will be on tap at the Spinnerstown Hotel and Taproom in Quakertown. Allagash Brewing Company brews Belgian-inspired beers in its Portland, Maine brewery. The beers that will be on tap this weekend include: White, Victor, Saison, Victoria, 16 Counties, Nancy and Curieux.
5. Red, White and Blue BBQ Bash at Peddler’s Village
Saturday, July 2, 12 – 5 pm, Peddler’s Village, Routes 202 & 263
Lahaska, PA
This Saturday, July 2, Peddler’s Village is hosting a classic all-American BBQ picnic with live music, entertainment, and kids’ activities on the Main Green from 12 – 5 pm. Activities include a watermelon eating contest, hula hoop contest, water balloon toss, and more. The full schedule can be found here.
In the evening, enjoy a patriotic-themed murder mystery dinner show called “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Death.” It starts at 7 pm on the Gazebo Green (weather permitting) and is $59.95 per person including the dinner, show, tax & service charge. Reservations are required so call 215.794.4051.
6. July 3rd BBQ
Sunday, July 3, 3:30 – 7 pm, Lumberville General Store, 3741 River Road, Lumberville, PA
The Lumberville General Store is throwing a pre-July 4th BBQ that is all-you-can-eat, and no reservations are needed. Entrees include grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ pulled pork and spice rubbed salmon fillets. Enjoy classic picnic sides like grilled corn, macaroni salad, or desserts like strawberry shortcake and blueberry pie. Cost is $19.95 per person, and children under 12 are $9.95. This BBQ is also BYOB!
7. Quakertown 35th Annual Community Day
Monday, July 4, Memorial Park, Mill Street, Quakertown, PA
The Quakertown 35th Annual Community day is all day on Monday, July 4. The park is open at 8 am and the day’s events will continue through 9 pm. Come for a pancake breakfast, car show, baseball, live entertainment, and fireworks to end the night.
8. Annual July 4th Parade
Monday, July 4, 9:30 am, North Branch Park, 207 Park Avenue, Chalfont, PA
There’s nothing like a Fourth of July Parade! This Monday, July 4, the parade in Chalfont will begin at 9:30 am at the Town Center and travel down Butler Avenue South to Route 152 North, and it will end at North Branch Park on Park Avenue. People can bring their lawn chairs and watch the hometown parade go by with marching bands, scout troops, antique cars, tractors, decorated floats, fire trucks and more.
This year, it’s also the 16th Annual Float Contest. Prizes are awarded for the most humorous and most patriotic floats (and of course, most original). There will be a canned food collection by Cub Scout Pack #133, and they are leading the parade and collecting canned food items along the way. All the food will be donated and delivered to the New Britain Food Larder after the parade.
Following the parade will be a 4th of July Veterans Ceremony, which is held at the North Branch Park at the site of the Veterans Monument.
9. Peace Valley Winery Annual Hot Dog Celebration
Monday, July 4, 11 am – 4 pm, Peace Valley Winery, 300 Old Limekiln Rd, Chalfont, PA
What? You don’t have a cookout to go to on July 4th? No problem. From 11 am – 4 pm (or when the hot dogs run out) on Monday, July 4th, come out to Peace Valley Winery for their 7th Annual 4th of July cookout. There will be free hot dogs, homemade baked beans, and all the fixings. The winery will be open from 10-6 but the food will only be available from 11-4.
10. Independence Day at RSI
Monday, July 4, 11 am – 5 pm, Rising Sun Inn, 898 Allentown Road, Telford, PA
It’s an Independence Day celebration at the Rising Sun Inn this Monday, July 4. Head over at 11 am when the concession stand opens, and enjoy food and drink specials from 11 am – 5 pm. There will be $1 draft beer, $2 buffalo hot dogs, $3 buffalo burgers, and oysters on the half shell from 3 – 5 pm.
There is free entry to all contests, and prizes will be awarded. There is also a buffalo hot dog eating contest, but participants must pre-register and qualify. A chili cook-off contest begins at 2 – 4 pm, and the tasting and voting begins at 4 – 5 pm. Bring your cooked chili or cook your own chili at the barn. 11. Fonthill’s Fourth of July Celebration
Monday, July 4, 12 – 4 pm, Fonthill Castle, East Court Street and Route 313, Doylestown, PA
Fonthill Castle in Doylestown is hosting a day of family fun, food, old-fashioned games, crafts, entertainment and live music this Monday, July 4. Join in on the fun with a watermelon eating contests, sack races, tug-o-war, bucket brigade relays, town ball (an early form of baseball) and the popular cakewalk.
The new event this year is a pie baking contest. Enter your pie in Fonthill’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Pie Baking Contest by filling out this form here by today, Thursday, June 30. Pies will be judged on 75% taste and 25% overall appeal & presentation (guess who is one of the judges? Bucks County Taste!).
Winners will be announced at 3 pm in the Fonthill tent. Prizes are: 1st Prize: $100 & an engraved pie plate; 2nd Prize: $50; 3rd Prize: $25. Pie contestants will receive one free entry into Fonthill’s July 4th event. Winners with their winning pie recipes will appear on Fonthill’s website.
There’s also good old-fashioned patriotic music to enjoy or opportunities to participate in a craft activity. There will be a selection of vendors offering a variety of summer time snacks and treats, or you may bring your own picnic and spread a blanket on Fonthill’s grounds. Fonthill Castle will also be open for self-guided tours.
