Thanksgiving has come and gone, so now it’s time to get back to a somewhat normal eating routine. But it is hard to resist that last slice of pecan pie or the stuffing hiding behind the leftover cranberry sauce.
You don’t have to eat until you burst this week, but you can still enjoy a country wine special, experiment with new seasonal recipes, and holiday shop for your all your foodie friends. Keep reading for more great events and activities!
Finish Your (Local) Holiday Shopping
Forget Cyber Monday. Pick out some really unique and local gifts for the foodie in your life. Your friend doesn’t need another coffee mug or scarf. What she does need is a cheese board with some amazing local cheeses, or handcrafted utensils, or creative preserves made with local ingredients, or artisanal chocolates.

Post Thanksgiving Recipes
The Thanksgiving leftovers are all gone, and now it’s time to think about getting on a normal eating schedule (you know, the kind that doesn’t involve eating mashed potatoes straight from the refrigerator…). If you are looking for lighter meals that incorporate a lot of fresh and local ingredients, look no further. Check out these editor picks for seasonal late fall and early winter recipes:
- Tuscan White Bean Soup with Swiss Chard: Tuscan home cooking is always seasonal and beans have long-held a prominent place on the regional table, especially during the colder months when the kitchen garden is bare. Bring it to your dinner table this week and warm up the whole house with hardier greens and fresh garlic.
- Curried Butternut Squash Soup: A somewhat spicier take on a winter classic, this curried butternut squash soup is warming and healthy and the flavors are virtually endless.
- Mashed Root Vegetables: You probably had your fair share of mashed potatoes this Thanksgiving, so this week, opt for root vegetables like turnips and carrots for a mix of flavors — and a terrific side dish!
