Barrel-Aged Holiday Creations from Dad’s Hat Rye
John Cooper and Herman Mihalich of Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey have been finding creative ways to reuse the barrels in which they age their whiskey. Now, for the second consecutive year, the Dad’s Hat Rye duo has taken advantage of aging their whiskey in their barrels which were used for storing various products, and they have released a limited edition holiday line of barrel finished whiskeys, which are all currently available at the Bristol, PA distillery.
The specials, which are only available at the distillery with limited availability, include a Honey Cask Finished Whiskey, a Maple Syrup Cask Finished Whiskey, and a new ‘Rock and Rye’ variety — an old-school whiskey liqueur recipe which dates back to the 1860’s. The ‘Rock and Rye’ is an aged rye whiskey mixed with sugar syrup and rock candy, whole cinnamon sticks, chopped oranges, lemons, apricots, horehound spice and cloves and infused for 10 days.
The Maple Syrup Aged Whiskey was made using barrels from Grinarmls Maple Syrup Company in Somerset, PA, as DHR has been sending their used American oak casks there for the past four years, so that Grinarmls can produce Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup, which is also sold at the distillery. The distillery is open for sales on weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. until Christmas, and on Saturdays for tours from noon to 4 p.m. Dad’s Hat Rye Whiskey makes for a great Christmas or holiday gift!
Hmm. Whiskey sounds like a good holiday gift – especially for your spirits’ lovin’ friends and co-workers. Need a non-alcoholic gift? Check out our 2017 gift guide for more ideas this holiday season.
