We hope you had a great Independence Day weekend. Now, it’s back to the grind… but the fun doesn’t have to end completely. This week is low-key, which is good if you had a little too much fun over the weekend, but there are still great things to do if you want to let the good times roll!

Go to a farmers’ market. Every week, the produce gets better and better! There are plenty of markets that take place on weeknights too. Find the one nearest to you in our Farmers’ Market Guide.
And if you want to know what to do with what you find at the farmers’ market… Pennypack Farm & Education Center is sponsoring a Herbs, Pesto and Pickling Demo in Horsham on Thursday evening (July 9) at 7 pm. If you leave the class inspired to make pesto, we’ve got a recipe for you, too: Tomato, Pine Nut and Arugula Pesto with Sausage, pictured above. Yum!
Here’s what you’ll find at area farmers’ markets: Apricots (new!), arugula, basil, beets, blueberries, bok choy, broccoli, broccoli rabe, cabbage, carrots, celery, cherries (new!), chives, cilantro, dill, escarole, fennel, garlic, garlic scapes, green beans, green onions, cut herbs, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, mint, 
mushrooms, mustard greens, napa cabbage, new potatoes, oregano, parsley, potatoes, radicchio, radishes, rosemary, sage, scallions, snap peas, spinach, spring onions, spring turnips, Swiss chard, summer squash, thyme, tomatoes, zucchini and more.
Most markets will also have eggs from free-range chickens, grass-fed and pastured meats, preserves, specialty foods, baked goods like breads, cakes, cookies and pastries, cheese and yogurt, cider and juice, sauces locally roasted coffee, and interesting crafts from local artisans.
